This is my last post before my exams and I decided to post a song about humanism that is missing in our age. But I will prefer instead of a song to tell you a story. What? Is there a song that looks like a story? Yes my friends…  Angelo Branduardi wrote a song called  Il Sultano di Babilonia e la Prostituta  that speaks about the journey of Saint Francis of Assisi in Babylonia. Lina Nikolakopoulou listen to that song and wrote the greeks lyrics and handed them to Lavrentis Machairitsas in order to sing it with Angelo. So, here it is!

ITALIANO & GREKO UNA FATSA UNE RATSA..

ENJOY THE MUSIC!!

Heading to the lands of Babylon, carrying his cassock instead of a javelin
starts a beloved man, his intercontinental journey
aiming to preach Humanism and Kindness
but (in the way) Saracens imprisoned him

Because of his own God,
people’s unfairness
in front of a Sultan
brings him as a defendant
but Sultan set him free of his shackles
and so our friend goes
to preach to other places

He stops at a well to quench his thirst
but shortly a woman reaches him
she is beautiful but her heart is full of poison,
she uses her body to invite him in another test of martyrdom

“For your own God,
I’ll burn myself with you”
he layed his hands towards her
and (suddenly) pigeons flew from them,
Cause of his touch she finds her faith
and so our friend goes
to preach to other places

Frate Francesco partì una volta per oltremare

Fino alle terre di Babilonia a predicare

coi suoi compagni sulla via dei Saracini

furono presi e bastonati poverini!

Frate Francesco parlò

E  bene predicò

Che il Gran Sultano ascoltò

E molto lo ammirò

Lo liberò dalle catene

Così Francesco partì

per Babilonia a predicare

I’ll speak out a couple of words about the “Poor of Assisi”
who went to Babylona’s edge
to preach Humanism and Kindness
but(in the way) Saracens imprisoned him

Because of his own God,
people’s unfairness
in front of a Sultan
brings him as a defendant
but Sultan set him free of his shackles

and so Francis goes to preach to other places.

This is my last double post before my exams. (21/5 - 16/6)  So for first song I decide to post a song that describes the answer of the most Greeks who did not vote the two big parties in the last elections( 6/5/2012) and their friendly ones. This song is definetely the “Gyrizo tis plates moy sto mellon”(=I turn my back to the future) by Charis and Panos Katsimixas. The Katsimixas brothers(one of the best duo in history of Greek music) teamed up with Dionysis Tsaknis(he wrote the music and the lyrics of the song) to write a masterpiece that people loved it and became one of the best greek songs ever.
Below are your lyrics! Take care folks! And don’t forget:

ENJOY THE POWER OF MUSIC!

I turn my back to the future
to the future that you make up the way you want it
since history belongs to you
rake it up again if you insist

Promises don’t fit into my ears
I have seen the spectacle ,don’t (you)drive me crazy
the ship of my dreams takes me away
into worlds where you can’t bear

I remain alone in my presentto save anything at all - if it can be saved -
and let me bear the consequences of the law
You will not have me as an accessory to murder

I turn my back to the future
the trap is set up and on your standards
Write me off your account books
I don’t enter into your labour and your works

I turn my back to the future
on the future that you make up the way you want it
since history belongs to you
rake it up again if you insist

I remain alone in my present
to save anything at all - if it can be saved
and let me bear the consequences of the law
You will not have as an accessory to murder

A very funny song by Lavrentis Machairitsas who sings for jealousy with an ingenious way. In this song, Lavrentis envys an Ankara cat called Tourkos (=Turk) (Not racist!)that his girlfriend has and keeps her company during her studies time in Paris. The songs is called Enas tourkos sto Parisi(= An Ankara cat in Paris). So enjoy it and don’t envy so easily. Isaak Sousis wrote the lyrics and Lavrentis Machairitsas with Pyx-Lax in the music.

At this time I would like to dedicade this song to one of my friends whoose his girlfriend has cat.(I don’t know if it is an Ankara cat).

Dedicar a Nelson! (I hope that I write it well)

You are writing me a letter saying that you are not coming for vacation
You are telling me that you have to pass some exams
You are sending me photos, some from Le Louvre
Some with your Ankara cat

Turk jumping at the stairs
Playing with you
Waving his tail on your shank
This Ankara cat is going to pull the Turk out of me*
Waving his tail on your shank
This Ankara cat is going to pull the Turk out of me*

I’m jealous of your kitten
It’s sleeping on your legs when you are studying
I don’t know if you also sleep together
Or you sent it away for a man
I don’t know if you also sleep together
Or you sent it away for a man

You are writing me a letter saying that you miss me a lot
It’s like a kiss made of paper
The time is ticking on until you have your degree
My letter seemed really hilarious to you
And  Turk hanging around your carpet
Making new French friends
Eating and drinking whatever you want
This Ankara cat is going to pull the Turk out of me*
Eating and drinking whatever you want
This Ankara cat is going to pull the Turk out of me*

I’m jealous of your kitten
It’s sleeping on your legs when you are studying
I don’t know if you also sleep together
Or you sent it away for a man
I don’t know if you also sleep together
Or you sent it away for a man

Forgive me for my childish acting
But I need so much to feel you next to me
I meowing all by myself away from you
But as the French say “c’ est la vie”
I meowing all by myself away from you
But as the French say “c’ est la vie”

* pull the Turk out of me is a very popoular proverb in Greek and it means you drive me crazy, but I wanted to translate it like this because the song talks also about an Ankara cat (Turk). That proverb exists in French too (fou comme un Turc). No racist content.

In the last posts I paid tribute to some great voices and lyrics of Greek Pentagram such as Dimitris Mitropanos, Manos Xydous and Marinella. This post is not an exception. I pay tribute to Greek folk music. A genre that is synonym with dance. And not a particular dance, but Zeibekiko. Let’s see the origin of the word! The word “bekos” is found in the Dictionary of Scarlatos Byzantios(Athens 1852) as a Phrygian word meaning ‘bread’.! It is also found in arvanitic dialect as “bouk” ,in modern Greek language as ‘boukia’,in english as’ baker’ and in german as ‘backen’ ..which all have the same meaning BREAD..!!! The ‘zei’ is another form of ‘Zeus’-the ancient Greek god, which means ‘Spirit of Life’..!! This indicates that Man is a combination of Spirit (Ζei) and Body ( Bekos), a communion according the christian church- Spirit and Matter together. Man is a coexistence of Spirit and Matter..!! Today, I present you one of the most famous zeibekiko in the history of Greek Pentagram, “The Zeibekiko of Evdokia”. A music that was written by the great composer Manos Loizos for the movie of Alexis Damianos, Evdokia, in 1971.

ENJOY YOURSELVES! FEEL THE SPIRIT!

A very beautiful song by the greatest greek music group ever, Pyx-Lax. The song “Melydron” its not only a love love song that Manos Xudous wrote (he died before 2 years, 13th April of 2010) but have lots of messages about life. There are several opinions about the truly rendition of the word “Melydron. You choose:

  1. Pyx-Lax were in Kefallonia in the summer of 1998 (before they got famous) and the group was singing in a club called Melydron
  2. Melydron was a club in Kefallonia that Pyx-Lax were patronising during their visit in the island
  3. When Pyx-Lax were in Kefallonia they stayed at a camp site near a beach called Myrtos(others say that the beach was Petanoi not Myrtos) and they were amazed by its waters and decided to write a song
  4. Maybe it is a reversed type of the word ydromeli that is a drink produced by honey and water.
  5. Melydron:Meli(=honey, sweet)+ nero(+water)=Sweet water. Figuratively speaking the sweet life.

Manos Xydous sang and composed this masterpiece. Think its lyrics. They are very intelligent.

Enjoy the music, Share Kotm@n!

I want to run, to fly, to get lost

but I’m afraid what’s gonna happen if I come back

I’m trying to defeat myself

but somewhere deep inside of me I won’t convince me

That’s what she was thinking about in the evenings at work

and her grey aura became more and more black

sad yes, alright, thank you

but some other thing nails her and breaks her…

The sea is beautiful because it always moves

and if you’ve found many lands you moor nowhere

give me for tip a song with the band

the sea is beautiful because it’s just like you

Man, let me do what I feel

I’m sick of talking to me about right things

just tell me what drink fills your glass

and if you want more here it’s not on them.

Life doesn’t end to a refuse

and if you have guts follow the refuse

what do you care if you are pointed in your house

because you wore your clothes upside down.

Today, I decide to pay tribute to Dimitris Mitropanos, who died at 17th April by a heart attack. Mitropanos was the last of the “Great voices” of Greek music. The others were Grigoris Mpithikotsis, Stratos Dionysiou and Stelios Kazantzidis. The song that I post today is called “Roza” and it may refers to Roza Luxenburg, the famous German revolutioner. Lyrics were written by Alkis Alkaios and the music by Thanos Mikroutsikos who is the pianist in the video.

Rest in Peace, Dimitris. You are irreplaceable

My lips dry and thirsty

search on the asphalt for water

the wheeled vehicles pass by me

and you tell me that a shower* awaits us

and you drag me to a wet cabaret

We walk along together on the same road

but our cells are separate

we turn to a magic state

I no longer want to know what we ask for

it’s enough for you to grant me two kisses

You play me in roulette and you lose me

in a nightmare tale

my voice is now the voice of an insect

my life is now a climbing plant

you cut me and you throw me to the void

How the need becomes history

how history becomes silence

what are you looking at me for Roza, all numb

forgive me for not understanding

what the computers and the numbers say

My love from coal and brimstone

how time has changed you

the wheeled vehicles pass over us

and I in the fog and in the shower*

I sleep at your side hungry

How the need becomes history

how history becomes silence

what are you looking at me for Roza, all numb

forgive me for not understanding

what the computers and the numbers say

An awesome song by Lavrentis Machairitsas and his group, Termites. The song is called “Poso se thelw”(=How I want you). “Bach”(aka Giannis Spyropoulos) wrote the powerful lyrics and Termites added their music to a fantastic outcome. I want to dedicade this song to the girl I love. Well, enjoy it and shout “HOW I WANT YOU”. Below, the english lyrics

At the edge of the enternity
a little moment of a dream
a drop that’s dripping
how it looks like you

Fire and air
and the world a fright
in the night that screaming, how it scares you
how much it looks like you

The Moon likes you
where to find some peace
in the Hades I rise
how I want you

How I want you

Against the laws
prophesier of the desert
Marks in the sand
that tonight you will erase

a future black and white, a yielded settler
a radio station you must change

The Moon likes you
where to find some peace
in the Hades I rise
how I want you

How I want you

Well, beloved folowers this time I will make your heart to break. I am posting a song that says about drugs. The singer, Giannis Vardis, sings a really emotional song protesting with this way against drugs and especially he expresses his sad feelings about the children that take drugs. That’s why he entitled his song “Ama deis ta paidia, pes ena geia”(=If you see the kids, say a “Hello”). Antonis Vardis, the father of the singer, wrote the music and Antonis Andrikakis wrote the lyrics. I hope that you will love this song. I will not say Enjoy because this song was not written for enjoyment. I am very dissapointed when I think that this amazing song has nearly a million viewers in Youtube and other mass production songs have 5 or even 6 million views. Well, here are the english lyrics…

If you see the kids just say a hello

everything ended before it started

Nobody, not even the parents, will search

I came and go unnoticed

If you see the kids just say a hello

because the world wasn’t for me

It was closed doors and judges

it was cold rain, a hard era

that none of them had a soul

If you see the kids,

just say a hello

from someone who was alone

he had something to say,

but in this silence

there was no time for him

If you see the kids just say a hello

from me and don’t explain

A thin blanket in a cell

That so many people locked

If you see the kids just say a hello

to loves that have forgotten me

It is wild time

and I am so young

I have lived so much and my life goes on

with the death that it sells me

If you see the kids,

just say a hello

from someone who was alone

he had something to say,

but in this silence

there was no time for him

There was no time for him!

Well guys, so many posts in such a short time you never saw in the History of my Tumblr. This time I do a friends’ favour. Well, my friend asked me to post the masterpiece of Christos Thivaios, “Poso poli se agaphsa”(= How much I loved you). Well my friend, your favor is done. Dear Followers, I hope that you will love my friend’s choice. Below there are the English Lyrics.
                             ENJOY THE MUSIC!

How much, how much

How much i loved you

How much i loved you

You will never learn it

From life, from life

From my life you passed

And you enlivened it and you got lost

As birds of passage

And nonreturning birds

How much i loved you

You will never learn it

And if you don’t expect to see me

And if you don’t expect to see me

And me that you’ll return

You my first dream

Very sweet breath

I will sing it eternally

I will sing it eternally

And you will never learn it

That the moments you gave me

They are worth one lifetime

How much i loved you

You will never learn it

It is time to present you the revolutionary aspect of my character!!!!
I think that everybody is aware of the bad situation in my country, Hellas. Music factory is here to give the chance to the Greek ” Indignados(=outraged)” to produce their songs. One of these songs is the “Tha paro fora” which means I am gonna rush my fences. The song was written back in 2009 when the first protests took place in Greece. The band that sings this great song are Kitrina Podilata which litteraly means Yellow Bikes. Lyrics are below as always.

INDIGNADOS OF THE WORLD, UNITE AND LET’S ROCK!!

We’ve turned into slaves for ten blokes
who hang the planet like a keychain
they harvest riches and plant starvation
they want to see us spitting blood in routine
they care so much about your children
voters you have in your womb
they’ll fund their studies, so as to get a job
and they’ll be fed by bow-down

But I shall live inside the day
I want to raise my hands up in the air
I want the sun and oxygen
and meet this future with hope
I want oxygen, I want to live, I want to live, I want to live.

And if I go mad, i’m gonna rush my fences
I’ll kick your fuckin’ ass on the uphill
if I go mad, two divisions of M.A.T.*
won’t be able to beat me
and so I wander, that’s how I let go
I hide inside me and cause panic
so I wander, so I let go
I dance my fantasy to the void

Dignity and principals are away on vacation
and they douse our thirsty heart with vinegar
futile massons rule dammit
but the grand sponsors that love us so much
will set us free, they’re great
they’ll let us crush on the rocks last
democracy and morality
are now sold in stock price
but we ache about this place
we tight our fists and belts for Hellas, goddammit
they think that we will never speak up,
but in the end the sheep shall eat the wolves.

So I’ll live inside the day
I want to raise my hands up in the air
I want the sun and oxygen
and to meet this future with hope
oh Hellas, I love you and deeply thank you
for teaching me how to never hesitate.
